I know blueberry season just ended but I love them so much I buy them all year round. Eating what’s in season locally is definitely preferable in that you know the foods you’re buying have been through less (maybe even have less preservatives), and there’s always the added benefit of supporting your local community–but there are some foods I just can’t wait for, which is where frozen foods come into play.
Frozen foods are a great way to get in your favorite fruits and veggies whenever you want. I find canned versions to be overall less flavorful and healthy since they sit in a kind of brine or syrup, but they are an alternative to consider. Frozen fruits and veggies are cheap and easy to prepare as well. Stick a cup of veggies in the microwave for a quick side to dinner or take a cup of frozen fruit and blend it with some yogurt for a healthy, filling smoothie in the morning. If you ever have a hankering for your favorite fruit/veggie, try the frozen foods section. If nothing else, it’s quick and conveniently easy.
What are your favorite foods that you’ll buy anywhere, anytime? I buy blueberries and freeze them myself quite often then macerate them so I can put them in/on top of whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like it.
